I bought a Uniden UM 625c from ebay, for 55 bucks including postage, but the screen didnt work, but i thought i could fix it myself, well i couldnt, so i took it to a radio guy I know, he fixed it in an hour, charged me 25 bucks, i dont usually do well with deals like that. I ended up getting a 225 dollar radio for 75 bucks. As an amature, when i took it appart, i thought, this is way beyond me, so i took it to a guy down the road, who builds radioes, and an hour later the screen is working.

It amazing what can be done, when you know the right people.

It happens :)

Last year I bought a nice Apelco handheld marine VHF at a flea market for $30 because the battery was pooched. I (carefully) cracked open the battery housing and saw that the NiCd cells were 'AA' size. found some surplus NiCd AA cells with tabs at my local surplus store... so for $6 and some careful soldering I replaced the bad cells, and now have a useful handheld.

I did the battery trick with my Roomba. $10 for the robot etc. and $18 for the batteries! "Dale" is now a member of the family! I have never been so satisfied with anything I use around the house as I am with Dale. He is amazing! Really.
So satisfied I got him a brother "Co-Co", that hangs out in the shop. No I didn't name them. Squeaky did.

I have a uniden hand held, that has a dead battery. I dont know what to do with it, any ideas. Cant remember the model number, its small, fits in your hand perfectly and is waterproof. They dont sell batteries for them anymore. Its in perfect condition, other than the battery is dead. What should i do. I hate the idea of chucking it.

Uniden does not make batteries. They bought them from someone else so you may still be able to get one. Take it apart and remove the battery to get the specs on it.
