Whale Plumbing Problems

I own a 2003 260 and it came with the hard plastic whale plumbing system. The system does not use clamps or plumbing glues for any connectors. The first time I filled the tank I found several gallons of water under both sinks. The elbow joints blew out. Since then I can't get water to run, with the exception of an occasional squirt, from the water tank. I have decided to put in a water pump to help improve the system. However, the system is sized at 15mm. All of the plumbing I find on the market is standard not metric. Has anyone found a sollution with out completely re-plumbing the boat. Or am I over looking something with the current system. If all you ever get is a few squirts here and there then this system sucks and Hunter need to address the problem.

hunter part

I am not sure how your system works but my 2001 290 uses the same 15mm connectors and hose which I ordered from hunter and I am sure one of the 260 owners will help you out soon.

Water problems too

I have the same problem the "John Guess" fittings were not in right. Pull them apart and check the "O" rings. Mine were not sealing because the "O" ring was not in its seat. The pumps failed because of the the split internal plastic part that surround the metal shaft. We only get a few spurts from our 3/2003 260. I have written to the factory on this.

water problems

We I first took delivery of our 260 we had exactly the same problem. Pump like crazy and get a few spurts. A couple of things for you to check. Our water tank was sitting on its side so the outlet was half way up the side. Unless it was more than half full all we got was fresh air and the occasional spurt. Undid the retaining strap and rolled the tank over so that the outlet was at the bottom. The next thing I did was make sure that the "T" peice was below the bottom of the tank. I then fitted a non return valve to the single line outlet of the tank before the "T" piece. I then checked the hoses under the vanity and the gally sinks to make sure they tight. Having done tis the system now works perfectly apart from the pumps which leak out the side of the controll arm but I can live with that untill I put in a pressure system which will happen in the next few months.

Pump valves

Check the one way valves at the bottom of the pumps. Take off the hose and hose clamp. Then unscrew the bottom plastic fitting. There is a rubber valve inside that fitting that gets grit and fiberglass stuck in it so it won't close. With the valve open the water won't pump. Clean out the grit and instant water, if everything else works. This also keeps from sucking air into the system through the other pump you are not using.

new pumps

I had pumps that leaked and did not pump well. I did not want the hassle of putting a pressure system so I installed new pumps fro Westmarine( about $60 a piece) but they work so well the are worth it. They fit nicely in the 2' hole. I did have to do some work to get the pipes to match. ct
