Yesterday I went out to watch some of the Rolex big boat series here on SF bay. When coming in down the Oakland estuary we noticed something draped across the bow bulb of a container ship at the Oakland terminal. It turned out to be a dead whale. Its the strangest thing I have ever seen in all my years of sailing:eek:. What is the strangest thing anybody else has seen?

Can't top that one Gary. But kinda' scary the first time was seeing so many lights way offshore. The closer we got the more alarmed we became. Was it moving? Which direction? And why haven't we reached its path? When we finally did it was huge and stationary, a casino boat at 0200 off Miami. Lights blazing and people partying. Two of us on watch were too busy to get a picture.

About 20 yrs ago we took a cruise from NY to Bermuda. When we arrived in port we were walking down the docks and noticed a sialboat mast and main sail hanging off the starboard anchor. When we inquired with the skipper of the freighter, they had no idea it was there! Had no idea where or when it happened ! WOW..:(

A dead whale is brought into Vancouver harbour on the bow of a cruise ship about every second summer up here in Vancouver.

Don't know if this is strange but it is different. Every year on Cinco de Mayo about 600 boats head south from Newport to Ensenada in what has become known as the Tequila Derby. Some of the boats are not in the race but just come out to join the mayhem of all the boats waiting for their class to start. We were sitting out of harms way when a sloop of about 40 ft passed by us with an all girl crew of about a dozen college aged coeds. What's so strange you say. They were all as naked as the day they were born. Knocked the wind out of a few sails. On another occasion same race a twelve meter had a string quartet in tails and white ties playing on the foredeck. Fair Winds...
