I need a rebuild kit for a Whale Gusher 10 MK11 bilge pump that came off my 1977 Columbia boat...does anyone have any ideas where I might purchase one?

Google search for Whale Pump never occurred to you?

Try it and you'll come up with all kinds of sources.

Peggie's Degrading Remarks

Peggie, I find your remarks to my posts and that of other sailors to be very degrading..yes I did perform a search but did not find exactly what I was looking for so why not take advantage of other sailors experience ( isn't that what this form is all about)...honestly I think you only respond to questions so you can get more exposure for the link which advertises your book for sale...if the book contains the same type of remarks that you make on this forum then you can bet your life I would never pay money for it !!!!

Gees, Jerry, what kind of WHALE GUSHER

10 bilge pump rebuild kit were you looking for? There can't be too many out there. If you have a specific question about installation or parts, ask it. Peggy answers a hell of a lot of questions here (some of them over and over) and is entitled to offer what is a common sense suggestion. If any of us wanted to be REALLY snippy, we would just tell everyone who aked a question to go to the archives. There isn't much that is new under the sun under which we sail and putter. We don't do it though because we want to see our thoughts in print!! We are all latent authors of books on sailing... Tom

Not to mention

no tone inflection in english writing, easy to take anything the wrong way, depending on our mood and sensitivity. I was in communications in the USAF and that was one of the first things they emphasized when corresponding by teletype. Many years ago of course.

To the point

To give you an answer, I just rebuilt a Gusher 500. I'm only assuming that they would have the kit for yours too. The rebuild kits were available at Boat U.S. and West Marine. West Marine was a couple of bucks more but they had the kit in stock and Boat U.S. didn't. The kit for the 500 was 25 bucks and change. That includes tax and shipping. Luck with it! P.S. I just checked West Marine and they do have kits for your pump.

Ye gads, even a search of our archives works here.

Peggy was good enough to suggest a google search, but if you had bothered to even search the archives here, you would have found lots of information. If for some reason you didn't find your specific answer, then come back to the forum and ask the question. Hard to fathom some people eh? Cheers,

Give Em a Break

Come on folks, let's give the guy a break. He may be new to this, maby not, I don't know. At any rate, he asked a simple question, not for lectures. Simple questions, simple answers. None of us are required to respond to this stuff. I'm was under the impression that this format was to help each other regardless of experience, not belittle folks!

To address the actual question....

I had a very similar problem this past summer, as my late '70's vintage Whale Gusher needed rebuilding. I chanced across the company's website in a letter to the editor of Good Old Boat. they are still in business and are located in Ireland, and I corresponded by email with an incredibly helpful woman named Joy. If I could, I would give you their email address, but I only recently deleted it from my hard drive. The long and the short of it is that rebuild kits were available directly from Whale, but are probably also available from West Marine. In my case, the price of the rebuild kit was close to the price of a new pump. I wound up replacing the entire unit for only about twenty dollars more. Based on what others have told me about rebuilding a pump, I also think it was the easier way to go.

Thanks MIke

Mike, I have located a rebuild kit from Fore and Aft Marine for 20 bucks...did you say you got a new pump for about 20 bucks more than the rebuild kit? The cheapest I've found a new Gusher 10 for is around 200 bucks. Thanks, Jerry
