I got a 1979 S2 9.2 c. The floor under the compression post is very wet. Do I need to remove the mast in order to fix the problem?
I read in the forum about a similar problem
Please advise

Pictures would help diagnose. Is there just some sitting water in the bilge there that hasn't drained or been pumped out? Or is the support structure for the compression post rotten from sitting in water?

Is the deck (where the mast rests) concave?

does the bottom of the compression post sit on a wooden base?

Pull the mast. Then pull the compression post. Rebuild the pad for the compression post and reinstall the post and rerig. You do need to ascertain if any deck delamination occurred and deal with that before reinstalling the mast. I know there have been several 9.2a boats with this issue. Make sure limber holes/tubes are clear.

Ok thanks for the advice. The big question is how the water penetrate under the post. It’s not salty when I taste it. I remember reading a post about this situation. ??

If you are floating in salt water and you are tasting fresh, then you need to find the source. The 11.0 has a limber tube from the mast area that takes any water to the bilge. Not sure what the 9.2 config is.
