so, my boat is on the hard, cork is out, yet there is still water there.

my fuel tank has been relocated to the port locker. so i can see deeper into the bilge.

i think i have seen others post about their completely dry bilges. mine always has a bit of water in it. i dont like this.

i want to get my bilge pump lower, but there seems to be an object, that i think was to set the fuel tank on, down there. can this be pulled out?

what type of bilge pump are you using?

what is the secret to a dry albin vega bilge?

It was removable on the Series 2 that I salvaged. I hoped that I could use the tank on Lyric but the series 1 has a narrower bilge and it wouldn't fit. Just a bit of a caveat though. The lower the pump the higher the lift means the lower the output. My personal
feeling on bilge pumps is every boat should have at least three. Small pump for maintenance, big pump for emergencies, manual pump for backup. Lyric has also been plumbed to allow the engine to pump the bilge. A high water alarm is a good plan also and I
believe there are alarms now that will phone you if your boat is taking on water. Pump cycle recorder will let you know if your pump is going off more than normal. On a somewhat sad note I'm announcing my intent to go over to the dark side. The wife has finally convinced me to sell Lyric and buy a small cuddy- cabin power boat. It will be a package deal with a custom built galvanized trailer and a 1994 Ford F-350 diesel.
She is hull #120, first sold in 1969 but laid up in 1967. She is an exceptionally well thought out boat. Numerous projects have been done with high quality gear. Judy worked for West Marine when we were outfitting her and the joke was Judy didn't get a paycheck
as she was paid in product. This was before most of the stuff they were selling was being produced in the big red star factory. Next year she will officially be a "plastic classic" at 50 years of age. I'll be putting her on the market then. Electronics need
updating and she is in serious need of a new paint job. WaltFrom: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com on behalf of ground hog groundhogyh@... [AlbinVega] AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com

The Cork...it is not up the keel. It is way at the bottom. Like 3 inches from the bottom. There must be some gunk in the drain hole. I shall shoot a hose into that hole to clear it outSent from my iPhone

A diaphram pump will remove the most water - like a Whale Gulper 220 or 320. The other advantage is the pump is not in the bilge.

Thats another thing....
My manual bilge pump doesnt work so well....
So as I have been fishing in the bilge, I found a type of screw on end to the manual bilge pump hose.
It is kin of a strainer and also a small thin rubber skin/diapharam that kind of is supposed to work as a check valve. Is this device necessary for the operation of the manual pump? Mine was found just floating around loose. Where do I purchase another? Or a new diaphram? diafram.. oh hell

Thanks.

A strainer is a good idea so large objects that end up in the bilge do not end up clogging the hose. Not sure what you mean by diaphram/check valve.

this gadget allows water to be sucked into the hose, then when the water trys to fall back out, it shuts off. one way onlySent from my iPhone

I put a whale supersub 650 at the bottom of the bilge. Seems to pump it almost dry.A check valve keeps the discharge hose from draining back into the bilge. Tim

There are probably people in the U.S. that are offended by the word "kitten" or the word "blue", so no doubt pee and prostrate are offensive to someone, the question is should anyone care if they are. Tim

Being easily offended is just another American social disease.

I'm going to sue somebody because I was feeling girlish one day
and decided I wanted to shower with the Dallas cheerleaders and
they wouldn't let me! (only because I was feeling girlish, of
course)
