My 'new to me' 1987 Oday 272 has a Westerbeke Ten-2 diesel. Until last weekend, I've had plenty of craking power from 2 batteries to start the engine. So when it failed to crank, I took one battery to West and an auto supply house. BOTH said battery was fine, just needed a charge. Replaced in boat, cranked right up, so thought it may have been dirty contacts. Tried it again this weekend and also failed to start. Finally my question(s): 1) I've been reading around 12 v on built in voltmeter - Is this sufficient to recharge the batteries? and 2) Tach comes off 0 when first starts, but does not appear to be in sync with motor speed (never gets above 500 rpm). I don't think Tach could be causing problem, and I can live without one. But am I overlooking something with an inoperative Tach?
