It's a bmc block,it's around the early 70's,the former four-91,a lot of them are still being used,do you know if the Kubota block is the same,at one time i had a mg,the valve cover looks the same

They want way to much money for them, true i may have to spend the money, but being a British leland block,i was thinking some one had a idea where to find cheaper parts, i may rebuild it soon, and not wanting to pay what westerbeke wants for thier parts.

They are still used a lot in the united kingdom.. all parts are still available there, but obsolete here.

I found this out when I was looking for new glow plugs... its a waste of time looking in the domestic market.

They were never actually available here from the domestic market other than westerbeke, but parts were easier to obtain at one time due to the current popularity at that time... they were great engines for the purpose at the time, and still are, but so many other modern engine brands and models have taken over the market share and the 4-91 has been left in the dust...

The only downside to the 4-91 is the parts cost and their immediate availability when you need them... otherwise they are a good, smooth running, long lifed engine...

I like the motor, easy on fuel, strong runner, but am having tons of problems finding parts,i would like to find a parts house i could order parts from, that are fair with prices, from what i have found out so far it's used in tractors, 1500 British leland, but from the web sites that i have found it's prices are not in dollars, so i am not sure how much i am spending,

If you dont want to deal with westerbeke, Your ONLY option is going to the UK.
Ive been thru all you are going thru and i can give you many other names of vehicles that used the british leyland motor and other designations for it, but the parts are still only available in the uk...

As for knowing what you are paying, search online for a currency calculator... it will do all the math for you. British pound vs. US dollar..
