Does anyone out there know of an inexpensive place to get enough 1/2 TEAK boards to make the 2 sliding doors for the cockpit-companion way doors? Is there a less expensive alternative?

Inexpensive Teak does not exist

Teak is not cheap, period. An alternative is polycarbonate sheet(Lexan) or Acrylic sheet (plexiglass). You can buy either in 1/2" thick and machine it with regular woodworking tools. It also lets in the light. Polycarbonate is very strong, but not as strong as teak. Polycarbonate tends to craze over time, and the acrylic won't. The acrylic is more prone to scratching and is not as strong as polycarbonate. I can't seem to find polycarbonate in a dark smoke gray shade but I can find acrylic smoked dark. Goggle Companionway drop boards and you'll get some ideas.

H & L Marine in Rancho Domiquez, CA.

Check out H & L Marine in Rancho Domiquez, CA. They have very good prices on teak. You may also want to consider Poly board. If it not protected from the sun you really need to use King Board, Starboard or similar materials. This stuff cuts and machines with regular wood working tools. The only problem is the fact that you cannot glue it easily (or cheaply). It will require mechanical fasteners.

Teak World

Teak World Enterprises, A company in Tennessee is by far the best place I've found. They will make anything you want, even using your old pieces as patterns. Best of all they are very reasonable. Google for #.

That's a door with broken hinges I believe.

But two doors with broken hinges? *o

Maybe slightly less expensive than teak...

You could call around for pricing on 1/2" thick Ipe. It's beautiful wood, sometimes used for extremely high end decking. Manny

Try Edensaw Woods in Port Townsend.

Their prices are as good as anywhere and they ship.

Go with starboard for your drop boards.

And I think that you will find the starboard material in a color you like. You can find it several places on the web (Ebay) and most places can cut it and ship it exactly as you want. I aggree with Don about the Lexan - I like the mix of Lexan and wood for the drop boards. I would also go with 4 pieces rather than 2 because they may be easier to store since you can find more places for them.
