I am wondering if there is a repair shop for wenches. I've racing my '87 Hunter 31 in our club regatas and the gib sheet wench on the starbord side is slipping in the high speed direction. I am also intrested in replacement wenches. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.

Replace the Winch instead

John, it would be much cheaper to replace the Winch..........replacing the Wench can be very expensive for many years to come. If your Wench is still lubricated, if your slotted handle still fits into your Wench smoothly, and it spins when you need it to.....just enjoy it. Concentrate on the Winch! Jim

If they are Maxwells

Forget about rebuilding them, parts are no longer available. I also have a 1987 H31 and last year mind started slipping. I broke them down to clean and regrease and found that the springs & pawls where shot. Over the winter I pickup 4 new Harken self tailing winches (2-32 for the halyards & 2-44 for the gib sheets) on ebay from Pyacht. Their prices where the lowest.

Maxwell Winch repair parts

I just received replacement springs for my maxwell winches from a company in Aus. It only took about a week and half to receive them once I ordered them. According to their site they can provide all parts.
