Well, that was surprising!

I did that to my PY23 in the driveway a few years ago........Didn't have to sand, went straight for the buffing compound.I was truly amazed at the difference. Looked like a different boat. Lot of sweat, but was well worth it.!!!

I'm fairly confident that I made the right decision here.
+1 on that!

When we first bought our boat 17 years ago (this month, actually!) it’s condition looked a lot like the “Wanderer” in Captain Ron. It took lots of rubbing compound and buffing to make it shine - and pretty much again every year. Down here in the saltwater, we now get to deal with the salt “mustache” as well - the bane of a dark hulled boat.

I got a kick out of his comment that you can’t do much with the white. And I groaned when he was going to make a big difference on your bottom paint, before I got to the part of you deciding not to proceed with his services. Good call!

When our painter in Trinidad waxes and buffs our hull, she shines like a new paint job. But with the island boat boys and fishermen coming alongside she loses it pretty fast.
But, to be honest, I'd rather have their services and friendship than shiny, mark free topsides.

kind of in the same boat ( Ha) myself. Boat i just bought has many spots on the hull that are very flat. Altough not appearing oxidized, i tried rubbing compound, then wax on some test spots with poor results.Wondeeing now if i have to wetsand first, im unsure of where the tipoinf pount is here. Wondering if oxidation remover woykd be effective first instead of sanding even if the hull is not chalky...
I used the 3M perfect-it products and a dewalt buffer on my cockpit last year and it came back like new. It takes a while but it works, first used the heavy cutting compound and moved on to step 2 polish/way and finally step 3 with wax.

So i assume cutting compund is basically a bad -ass rubbing compound, more aggressive?
