Weird season

I got bogged down in bathroom remodeling at the beginning of the season, recovered and got the boat in mid June only to have both of us sick July 4th weekend. Then work went nuts.

On the plus side, we had perhaps the best season I have experienced, with good winds all summer and a warm summer to boot. Typically we hit the doldrums in August with high humidity and 5 knot winds for a good 4-6 weeks.

Lots of day sailing, but I did help a friend move his Hunter 37 to Marblehead last weekend. I really had hoped to break out of the harbor on Triple Play for a week, but I couldn't get away from work. I have about a week and a half of vacation I will lose (I can only carry 5 days over) and I can't imagine being allowed to take it all given priorities at work.

Triple Play came out of the water about two weeks ago. I am totally in denial that winter is knocking on the door, but it is clearly time to consider putting on the winter cover. There are enough leaves on the ground for a small army though, and no doubt Thanksgiving will drive reality home. Thanksgiving will come fast too, as I have to travel for work next week (UK) and the week after (MD) after only being home for a day.

Try and get all of the honey-do's done this Winter so you have more time for sailing next year.

I got to go sailing on a co workers Ericson 25 for the past two weekends. Great wind for a change. Good thing too as she is a heavy boat!

I can't wait to launch SevenSundays this coming Spring. :dance:

I'm on the hard for the winter now too. I am thankful for having the longest season yet. Went in April 22, and got quite a few miles in this year. Yes there were some stinkin' hot days putt-putting along in July, but right now they look pretty good!
Time to firm up the project list...oh dang... it is directly proportional to the spare cash list.

My project list is just huge. Water tank, fuel tank, cabin sole, rudder stuffing box, replace and rewire pedestal guard...etc...etc...etc...so I better get cracking. Wait a second. I can't get my door open because of all the leaves...sigh.

We bought our 9.2a in mid-July, spent every free moment working on her to get her out of a 5 year hibernation. In the water by August and had a glorious August and September, plus a couple good sails in October. Great wind and weather on Narragansett Bay!

We considered this short season a trial run while we generated a punch-list for the winter.Now she's stripped and shrink-wrapped, ready for a new headliner, head rebuild, interior teak re-finishing, chain plates and portlights re-sealed, etc.

Oh and BTW, I snapped off the water tank nipple. I'm going to try and tap a stainless steel hose fitting into the left over stub, or it's a new water tank.

you will find that the metal is not a heavy enough gage to tap and hold the ss fitting .....the best that you can do to save the old tank baring any other weakness is to have a new fitting welded where the old one is......this will require you removing the tank from the v-birth....if it is in good shape otherwise.... put in a couple of 4 inch clean outs...and check the other seams and welds ....i have found new tanks out of plastic from about $250. and up .........

Yeah probably end up with a new tank, but there's alot of weld buildup around the fitting and I was hoping there was enough material there to tap. Otherwise, I was going to cut an inspection port in the top and if the rest of the tank is on good enough shape I might be able to install a back-nut type fitting.

You certainly could install a bulkhead fitting instead if your tank is till good. You will have to cut an inspection port to fit the inside nut as you indicate. However, I think you will find that your tank is perhaps nigh the end of its service life.
