Weird Proposal

Take Ross's idea and when the trash bags return you let the "volunteers" sort through it to determine what type of trash and where it might have come from. Then we would have some real data on who is to blame and can start thinking about curing the patient and not just treating some mythical made up symptom.

On a related note. The First mate and I see this litter on random beaches that we visit. I'm not the most intelligent person but I do understand how water and floating works. We find that apparently the laws of physics are not in effect on beaches as the beer and soda cans tend to be found in bunches (all the same type too!!!???) up above the high water mark. Pretty sure I understand what is going on here and while it may be boaters leave behinds it is certainly not from throwing them overboard.
We personally hate this stuff so much that the dingy deployment kit has a trash bag in it for collecting this stuff. Do we clean the entire beach? no, but if everybody just picked up two or three pieces (and we find the rascals that are leaving it behind and castrate them so they can't breed) I'm thinking that is a better "volunteer" system. I volunteer to do the castrating if anybody has some candidates BTW

We used to enjoy visiting a couple of the nice spoil islands on the Indian River Lagoon. We'd always have a trash bag to help police the islands but had to stop when some idiot put a garbage can out there with no provision for emptying it. The people that had been hauling off there trash quit and the can was soon buried under a mound of garbage.

The cure for that is several trash bags and making the can disappear. Clean up the mess. With the can there people probably believed that the DNR assumed responsibility for the trash. Post a sign that says, "Take nothing but memories and leave nothing but foot prints." Don't use wood for the sign, it will be burned for fuel.
Hey T-Bird, I'm pretty sure that ALL my "outbursts" are from the extreme right not the left. Not too many lefties that would advocate my "ultimate solution" buy giving natural selection a helping hand.

There is currently 1 non-profit for every 4 Americans in this country and 99% of them are run and founded by aimless people who will make-up a problem just to acquire funding to give themselves or somebody else an unnecessary (and nuisance-like) job.
I worked for Greenpeace for over 3 years, and while I love Saving Whales and appreciate their mission to "Give the Earth a Voice", I had to quit because too many of my fellow "environmentalists" harbored brainless ideas very similar to Wounded Planet's.
Sailors are the best "environmentalists" ever. We are self-sufficient and resilient, and operate in complete harmony within our environment.
We are also good "capitalists" because it takes $$$ to own and maintain a boat.
I guess you could say we're Blue and Red. Make it purple
We are not "Left" or "Right"- we are "Even Keeled and Well Heeled".
Lets unite to fight the idiots, not each other.

This thread is political in nature but boating related so it dances right on the edge of the forum guidelines. Problems start is when someone changes the discussion from local or regional government to broad political statements about the federal government which are not directly related to the topic. That was the case with posts which were removed here.
I would have moved the whole thread into the War Room but I think there's enough value in the content to leave it.
FWIW, we have four moderators: 1 liberal, 1 conservative, 1 who may lean a tiny bit libertarian but is mostly moderate, and 1 who's political views are completely unknown. All of us delete posts when necessary and I'd be very surprised to see any political trend to it.

jackhartjr, we as moderators have several tools available to us for deleting posts/threads. Two of the tools are soft delete and hard delete. To the best of my knowledge, we all use soft delete so that if circumstances dictate, the post/thread can be recovered. The soft delete leaves the post but hides it.
The hard delete makes the deletion permanent. There is no record of the post/thread ever existing. I don't think Phil, Scott, Maine, or myself use that method. Simply because we work as a team and discuss before deleting. That is unless it is blatantly obvious that it needs to go (spam and vulgar language). Even then it is usually a soft delete.
I have searched this thread and found no evidence that Scott's delete post ever existed. Not saying that it didn't but I cannot find it. If it was soft deleted it could/would be reviewed and maybe edited and put back on.

Awww, I was out on the boat for two nights and three days (the last day spent cleaning, just for the "gals" on the board who might think that when left alone us guys do nothing but drink and party).
