Hunter 240 GREENVILLE,SC
Does anyone have an idea of a Hunter 240 on the trailer would weigh, one that is ready to take to the lake and launch? I am thinking of getting a new vehicle to tow with.

Estimated Weight For My 240

I have not weighed my boat on a scale but I estimated 3,820 lbs. for my 240 with the things that I have on board and an estimated trailer weight of about 1,000 lbs. Under gear, I included water, I have a total of 20 gallons on board, batteries, anchors, chains, lines, fenders, (2)full ice chests, BBQ and fuel. That does not include personal gear, food or beverage. Boat ----------2,300 Trailer---------1,000 Motor----------- 102 ---Yamaha 8hp Gear------------ 418 _______ 3,820

H240 Weight

My H260 weighs 4400lbs and the trailer weighs 1320. The whole package comes in at close to 6000lbs. The H240 is lighter with a single axle trailer but even if you knock off 25 percent you'll still come in at about 4500lbs. Most people underestimate the weight of their boats. Cavitating has it pretty well worked out but I'd add another 1000lbs to the boat weight to be sure. Running the boat/trailer over a certified scale is the best way to size the required tow vehicle. Trailer Weight

Drew: I don't think that the trailer weight is 550 lbs. I looked at the Magic Trailer website and I could not find their sailboat trailers but the weight for their 24' powerboat trailers is between 1,110 and 1,120. That is not taking in consideration a spare tire, the forward ladder and all the extra hardware and wood that is required on a sailboat trailer. If anything, I under estimated the weight of my trailer by a couple hundred pounds. According to Magic trailer, a trailer that weighs about 550 lbs. would carry a powerboat of about 18 feet. You would be surprised at all the things that you start bringing on board, weekend after weekend, spare parts, tools, etc.... George is right. The only way to find out is going through a scale. Does any body know where to find actual information on the 240's trailer?

I Have a 23.5

The empty hull is supposed to weigh #2000 the trailer #980. Now add motor and all the other stuff on the boat a spare tire etc. I'd bet mine is approaching #4000. That was why I added the second axle on the trailer.

Trailer Capacity

I know that the trailer is not strong enough to handle the 240 and I know that Hunter puts the 240 on a single axle trailer to make the package cheaper but it is unsafe and the trailer is overloaded. The tires that came with the trailer are rated at 1750 lbs. each @50 PSI. SO, the weight limit is 3,500 lbs. Even if you add higher load range tires, the axle itself is rated at 3,500lbs. I thought about adding an additional axle but since I keep my boat at the marina, on the trailer, I only travel but a hundred feet back and forth. Since I use it exclusively on salt water, I know the trailer is going to need replacement in a couple of years. When the time comes, I will buy a dual axle. I have beeen serching on the net, but sailboat trailers are hard to find. Does any one know of any trailer that will fit the 240?

The "actual information" on the 240's trailer is listed on the title provided by Magic Tilt. Mine says 550 lbs. If that is 500 lbs. less than the thing actually weighs, then someone goofed. But, if it is really that much heavier, there is NO WAY my 4-cylinder truck with a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds would pull the load, which it does. OK, so it whines and complains uphill, but other than that it does fine.

Magic Tilt Website

Drew; I am assuming that you hava a Magic Tilt like I do. There has to be a mistake with the weight of your trailer. Go to the Magic Tilt link below and look at the weight of trailers for 24 footers. Then look at trailers that weigh 550 lbs and look at the size of the boats. http://www.magictilt.com/products/trailer-sbv.htm
