WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION

I purchased a 1987 Hunter 35 this spring. It seems overly sensitive to weight in the bow. If I fill the water tank completely and store anything in the V berth, the bow dips 3 to 5 inches below the water line. Is this a common problem? If so, any ideas?

Add float balloons to the bow which might raise the bow

Answer: Yes!!

We have a similar problem with our '88 h-35 and have learned to deal with weight management over the years. It helped to add foru golfcarts and a group 28 vice the two little 24s. The lazarette is a great storage area - I'm currently working on a shelf project. Under the shelf is stored the spare 45-ft x 3/8 chain and spare 5/8 x 350 ft rode. The 8 hp outboard fits on top of the shelfalong with other items too numerous to mention. I'd like to increase fuel tankage which could help. Otherwise, try to keep weight aft and the light stuff forward. Also. with the large water tank it is easy to keep it only half full and this saves a lot of weight. When sailing, however, I've been told that the boat sails faster with weight in the bow.
