I am going to install a window unit AC in the aft of my boat, but wasnt able to install it this weekend. So we made it work just for the weekend and be comfortable. Looks crazy, but it worked perfectly.

When you are not dripping in sweat, it really does not matter if it is a permanent mount or not. Improvising is an important skill when you want to get away.

Is that a stereo speaker mounted right above the compass? Don't those all have pretty big magnets in them? Does it interfere with your compass?

ah, much better :). Last boat of mine came with speakers in about that location. I removed them shortly after noticing the compass wasn't of much use :cussing:. There wasn't even a stereo on the boat at the time.

To be honest, I don't use the compass that much, but my wife uses it to hold a course when I am not at the helm, I just use the GPS or horizon, but she likes it.

I have a AC unit I was am most likely going to use on the boat when we go somewhere this summer and I planned on using it just like you did. My wife is German and well they aren't the biggest fans of AC unless it's really hot, I like it a little more. We don't have (yet) and aren't sure if we want to run a generator for when we are on the hook, but in a marina on shorepower I wouldn't feel guilty about running my AC, especially if it drowns out the other AC units that we aren't enjoying ;).

People have made some pretty cool setup, and though the companionway isn't ideal, it's a pretty good fit, pretty easy, and cheap in comparison to many options out there.

I am going to finish thew installation with the ac being between the cabin and the cockpit locker. I will show pictures when I am complete. I am now in the process of building the wall where the ac will be mounted. I think it will look original.

If I picture it correctly you intend to have the front of the unit facing into the cabin and the rear in the cockpit locker separated by a wall. It is a good idea but you have two issues that would need addressing. 1) How to exaust the hot air from the cooling of the compressor and 2) disposing of condensed water. Let us know how it works.

When in use, I will just open the cockpit locker. And is thats not enough air flow, i couyld just put a small fan down to supply air. As far as water, i could set up a hose from the ac out to the side.

My wife is German also,, for her the heat is fine but the humidity is the demon. We don't have shore power on the boat we just bought but I'm guessing we will have it by next season....if not sooner.

Bamberg, Germany to be exact.
