I used Steve Wedlock for a recent survey and I'm not sure how high the quality of his work was. The survey came back looking pretty bare in the "recommendations" section for a boat that's 30 years old. Has anyone else used his services? What's his reputation like?

A quick google revealed a established marine surveyors firm out of northern California. Mr Wedlock's resume shows him being a member of the Society of naval Architects and Marine Engineers and a member of the National Association of Marine Surveyors plus being the holder of a 300 ton Masters License for power and sail. You provide no information about the scope and purpose of the survey nor about the condition of the boat. The fact that the boat may be 30 years old can be irrevelant. Don't know this firm nor their reputation but would recommend that if you have a question about the work performed that you contact them.

As I posted I think on this list before, I used his company some four years ago for a survey. It wasn't Wedlock, but one of his associates. The survey was so slipshod that they had to agree to refund half of my money. They missed some simple but major things with the engine. They missed the fact that both the transmission and the throttle cables were almost completely rotted out (a fact that I saw when I simply pulled up one of the panels in the sole). Sure, i should have spotted these things, but I was as green as grass and overly reliant on the surveyor. One last thing: It later came out the surveyor was a personal acquaintance of the seller and actually asked him why he was selling the boat for such a low price!
