Webasto pump cycling quickly

I just bought a 1981 J/30 that has a webasto diesel heater. I am thinking that the fuel pump is non standard because it runs for one cycle every second, in a relatively loud click...click...click...click...

Does the (rather expensive $200) webasto pump run less often?

Are there tricks or methods to reduce or eliminate audible fuel pump operation? I have always placed a premium on silence...

That is normal operation on some diesel furnaces. Each click delivers a small bit of fuel to feed the heat.

Patrick. It is the nature of the pump. It is in the heater. It meters the fuel. You can locate the heater far away from the rest of the boat in an isolated void. You can build an sound insulted box around the heater. Or you might ask Wabasto if they have developed a silent pump. But I doubt it.

It is one of those annoying issues that happens on a small boat. Like the otters crunching mussels next to the hull while your trying to sleep. Or the anchor chain rattling as the boat drifts back and forth in the breeze, or that annoying jet ski zipping through the anchorage.

Some heaters are more silent than others.

All the little things. Sensitive people should probably not own boats... I recall Bernard Moitessier writing about getting almost no sleep every night sailing around the world. I could never imagine it.
