As we had our boat in the sling about to be launched last week, I noticed a web of spider cracks under where one of the cradle pads had been (not positioned on the cradle correctly). The attached photo, while not great, will give you some idea. A local boat repair guy, who I trust, looked at it and said that since the cracks were very shallow and the hull is solid glass and not 'cored' we would be ok to use it this summer and then have it fixed at pull out this autumn. I'm still a little nervous, so thought I'd run it past you guys for a 'medical second opinion'...or third or fourth. If it matters any, we are in fresh water on the Great Lakes. Thanks

Can't See

Can't really see much but my 07 H-36 has and had some different location's on my boat over the years and had some repaired by the dealer when new and most likely do some more repairs and other voids next hual out.
If a pro said it can wait than I would think he knows and would use this season and wait until the fall.

Were was the hull oil canned or push in ? Was it under the shower head area on the port side how about on the starboard side? This would be the area marked to place the slings when lifting boat in the travel lift. Did hull pop back out or as it remained pushed in?

It was port side under the shower area approximately. We noticed it buckled in about two weeks after we stored it on the cradle. We could no longer easily get to it by then, so the yard crew just came in and put more blocking under the keel to put more weight on the keel versus the cradle pads. That removed the 'buckling' for the rest of the winter. That was the only place that there was a problem.

I bet we are not alone in this.

Deacm...... I bet we are not alone in this. Sense I could never get a response from the original manufacture and sense they skipped out it seems buy declaring bankruptcy and then selling the company and new company does not want be responsible for the screw-ups of others. And who can blame them. I am stuck with figuring this out for myself with my limited resources. I have developed some different ideas in my head on which way to fix this. One is that I am pretty sure of is that what will have to happen is that the entire lower portion of shower and part of bulkhead will have to be removed to gain proper access.

Guys, I do not have a Hunter, but a boat is a boat. How the boat was manufactured is what makes boats different from each other. However, from what I am reading, this is not a manufactures issue as outlined by onecoolair. This seems to be a boatyard issue.

I have had the chance to look at different manufactures manuals and I seem to recall that all have the proper location to put lifting straps. This seem to me to be under load bearing frames to prevent what you are describing. I think in some I have seen where to place the pads for dry docking. But this was not in all the manuals.

Regardless, as sailors and boat owners, I think it very clear that we are responsible for how our boats are lifted and dry docked. We have to make sure that the straps and pads are properly placed. I know on my boat I tell them exactly where to place the straps else they will break the rotor for the knot meter.

Again, I do not see this as a warranty issue or manufacture issue. So I think we need to keep the discussion away from that arena.

Just to add to the discussion, I have crazing all over my deck but none on my hull. So I can empathizes with you. Besides having the boat repair, you might have a surveyor also look at the cracks. That might be the best second opinion you can get.

Brian..... I did not say it was not an old manufactures issue. It was a total screwup on their part. The area in question is right were the old now out of business manufacture showed to put the slings for lifting. I noticed this problem when the boat was about four years old, boat was already lifted in the slings and being moved to work area. The slings were in the proper marked location. Reported it to dealer they could never get a response nor could I . Those folks responsible for this are in the wind. Been a cloud hanging over me on what to do for a long time. I know it's fixable. But with limit resources what can one do?
