Im interested in getting to the web from a laptop on a boat (wireless). Is there somthing other than a cell phone. How fast can weather maps and other things be down loaded? We plan to cruise the Bahamas. Thanks for any ideas!!!
there are two nav software companies that will display GRIB formatweather files superimposed on charts. these are small files no larger than 100k. The companies both offer subscription service that will email you these small files on a predetermined schedule. This method is perfect for low bandwidth connections.
I have been searching for quite a while to find a good weather fax software and there is some good ones, but the tricky business is to receive the information from your Shortwave band radio, which mine is a Sony. I did not succeed yet but I will get there. That is the only way if your cruising the Bahamas without a cellular phone to get the weather on your Pc. As soon as I succeed I will let you know.
