Since 1999 I have been using use a Motorola Timeport L7389 (Tri Band) with the IR port working into my laptop computer. I can use Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Compuserve and all my normal land line based stuff. Sadly the connection speed is only 9600 baud but this is fine for e-mails and weather forecasts.I am advised it will even work in America. Regards.
I have been using the Motorola Timeport on the Sprint network in the US at a rate of 19,200. The Timeport came packaged with the PC cable (serial port) and CD at Radio Shack. This saves hunting around town for a matching cable. The minutes simply come out of my pool of voice minutes. The lower plans have an additional charge for wirless web ($5 or $10 per month), the higher volume plans include it. The only offshore access to the internet I have seen is via satellite phone at a considerably higher rate. Another option is e-mail via SSB radio.
