Hi All, I wanted to pass on some information that might be usefull to folks who own a PDA/Smart phone. Most providers Verizon, Sprint etc. etc. don't want these phones used as a modem for a laptop because they want you to buy an "air card" for your laptop with seperate service $$$$. I happen to have a Motorolla Q and pay for the "data" package which is $45.00 per month. This is great when I'm on the go, in airports, or in my car but browsing sites on a 2.5" inch screen stinks and typing a post like this on a 2.5" keyboard is even worse. I found a software that you can download to allow your smart phone to become a modem for your laptop and it woks really, really well. This software allows your Windows computer to go online by connecting to your Windows Mobile Phone through the ActiveSync cable/dock, Bluetooth or InfraRed. If you own a Treo 700w, Motorola Q, PPC/XV 6700, Samsung I730/I830, T-Mobile MDA, Cingular 8125 or any other Windows Mobile phone with a data plan, PdaNet will make it your high speed wireless Internet Service for your laptop/desktop computer instantly - no extra hardware or setup necessary, no need to kill ActiveSync or perform any tricky hacking to your device whatsoever. I for one am really glad I found this software! Last weekend I had a mechanical issue and needed a schematic for my head to figure out what the problem was before taking the pump apart. The ability to connect to the internet, from a remote location, saved me a lot of time and the problem was fixed in 5 minutes instead of a dirty, smelly couple of hours! Check it out at "Related Link"

I have used a kyocera 7135 Smartphone..

for several years now as my Verizon wireless internet modem for my onboard laptop. The 7135 is the one with the Palm O/S and also has it's own browser so you can use it direct from the phone, but plugged into the laptop results in much better functionality. The Kyocera charging base has a usb plug to connect to the laptop. Not only has it worked very well, but Verizon keeps upgrading it's network and the service is very good.

I bought a laptop that has the wireless on it, did not buy it with that in mind, but I do have Verizon for cell phone, do you combine the two or continue with the cell bill and pay 45.00 per month for internet service too. I did call Verizon, got the run around from a kid that either did not know or had some agenda to sell. Thanks J.

In my case the cell phone functions as the cellular wireless connection to Verizon's broadband network. It works anywhere I have a cellular signal. If you have cellular wireless in the laptop itself you don't need the phone (but you might want to decide which is the cheaper and better functioning option of the two). If you mean you have a non-cellular wireless card in laptop that would only work within range of a WIFI connection point, which is different than cellular. If i'm not clear or you have related questions you may e-mail me at mulf@comcast.net ps re: Verizon try http://www.verizonwireless.com then click on PERSONAl and the drop down for PDA's then click one of the phone's BROADBAND ACCESS options for details ps: Verizon doesn't show my phone on their site so here's that link incase you are interested in comparing: http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/7135-smartphone/features.htm
