Howdy, I've been doing some club racing with my hunter 25 and I've got a question about weather helm. I've been using my 150 genoa usually and the boat seems to turn into the wind terribly even in a light puff. I've only got one other crew member at this point so I don't have alot of weight to shift around. I've heard you can adjust your mast rake forward or aft to counter some of this. But I'm not sure what the specifics are. I've got an adjustable backstay so maybe I could adjust some of this out. Any suggestions?? Also on an unrelated matter. My DC switch box has 3 or four big toggle switches which I have figured out to work the running lights, depth finder and interior lights but it also has a bunch of smaller toggle switches. Does anyone know what these do? They don't really seem to do much when I turn them on and off but they have to be there for something! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Happy sailing and thanks, Chris Blue Light Special

Tune, tune, tune

Go to the home page and at the bottom you will find the "Reference Library" which has the instructions for tuning the rig. Also, go the library and get some books on sailing and sailboats. To remove the weather helm rake the mast further forward but you need a total tune. Get to know what all of the controls do by reading. You find it worth the effort.

Weather Helm

I sail/race 1974 25 Hunter full keel & tiller and with 150/155/160 Genoa's (UK Sails) with no apparent weather helm whatsoever. One aspect about flying larger genny's is that the block position on the toe rails has to be changed for each size headsail. If I forget to move my blocks back for larger headsail I do encounter some problems with boat wanting to head up but as soon as I move blocks back it disappears. Hope this helps.
