wear of the Combi control tube

Hi,

Last weekend I finally managed to dismount the Combi and the shaft.
The reason of doing so was that the stern gland was leaking more
and more, and also grease was getting out of the back of the Combi.

Then I noticed that the control tube is rather worn,
- I can see and feel with my fingers valleys on the tube:
at the stern bearing place, at the front of the stern gland,
and at the back cover of Combi.
So I think the tube needs to be replaced.

The wear is however not symmetric, it's "tilted"
with respect to the shaft,
especially at the stern bearing,
see this photo:

What could be the reason of this and should I worry/do something
about it ?

I still have an entire Volvo penta engine, md6a combi, transmission, control system tube, shaft, housing& propeller, engine controls, etc. I'd like to pass on the whole thing to one of the group (or several) who are dedicated to keeping the original engines going. Mine was working ok & shows little wear but when I had the chance last year I installed a beta marine last year. When I pass the Vega to one my daughters, she & granddaughters don't have to worry about that. I am very open to offers. My Vega is Penelope Hull # 2133, I'm on Frenchman Bay, near Mt Desert Island, Acadia Nat'l Park, in down east Maine.
