I did mine 2 years ago (Oday 25 - 1977) - I let the wife have it this spring when she filed for divorce, but should have kept half- stupid me...
Anyway, you will want to take all the crap off the inside. Mine had been hit in the stern , and the plywood was cracked all th way down, but not the FG, which was strange,....I used a right angle grinder and got it all out- nasty job- full bunny suit, mask, respirator, ear phones. One-handing it in the gloom between the cockpit and inner stern was a treat. The wood is basically a 30-31 inch square, with a curve for the hull in one corner. I made mine out 3 layers of 3/8 ply , set the engine mount bolt holes prior to installing - that entailed drilling the holes in one sheet aafter cutting it carefully to shape, using the stern holes for a template, then transferring that one sheets holes to the other two - Then I drilled those holes out to 3/4 inch, taped off one side, and filled the holes with thickened epoxy while the panels were flat on the bench. Once hard, redrilled the holes with all three panels together, for line-up.
Installation used slightly thickened poly to wet out the inner hull, then mat, then ply, then mat, then ply, using the bolt holes to draw the wood to the curve of the stern with bolts. (When the whole thing is set, the bolts will be epoxied in - what you can do is use 2" or so full- thread steel bolts, with nuts and wasshers inside and out to create the squeeze, leaving a long boldt shaft sticking out of the hull. Then dtake a torch, and carefully heat th eboldts up, - the epoxy will get soft next to the threads , and the boldt will spin right out.
When dry, I filled the space between the wood edge and the hull with thickened poly, let that dry, ground the whole thing, and put 2 layers of mat on. I also redid the king plank at the same time, as long as I was in there...you probably could use laminiating resin, if you don't want to grind so much. I had to use waxed....
It's bomber now, and the wife is happy - got rid of me, and has a great boat!
This is a somewhat long, nasty job, but once done, you should be good for decades. Epoxy all through holes, for sure.
