Good news my wife(who is sailor in our family) loves the boat. Happy wife Happy life! However I am the one who has to take care of our boat. Found two major issues for me and one for her.
Her issues she cannot lift or tilt the motor when sailing just to heavy for her and all most to heavy for me.
My rebuilt 9.9 Johnson motor had trouble idling. Every time we went in dock and we slowed down she would just quit. Always started back up easly. Someone told me maybe my gas line may have a slight hole in it>>>:evil:
The other issue is electrial and only one battery which I think is bad. The Johnson motor has electrical start which added extra strain to the system. The real issue is all the wires that have been cut and just thrown around. Including a two battery switch. I bet not everyone has a test battery switch to turn on the main power of cabin.
She did sail nice and as I said the wife is happy now I have to tweak the boat for her comfort.

Congrats on the boat! The O'Day 25 is a great cruising boat and Johnson outboards are the best as far as I'm concerned. Maybe you can get a small set of block and tackle or buy a couple of two sheave blocks and some line and put it together yourself. Then, attach it to you stern rail and the outboard bracket or the engine, to aid in lifting it.
As for the outboard stalling at low speed. It could be a number of things starting with the gas. This Ethanol that they put in the gasoline attracts water which can cause this problem. The Ethanol can also break down the lubricant mixture in the gasoline. Some people are buying Gasoline/water separator filters and installing them in the fuel line. Where I have a six gallon plastic fuel tank in a fuel compartment, I think that this is unnecessary. I always shake the tank up when I first get on board before I start the engine and bring her to the dock for loading.

You idle jet is very intolerant of any residue in it. I have an inline filter and my 1980 Honda 4 stoke is lucky if the carb will go a season before the idle jet needs a good cleaning. I can extend it by using carb cleaner spray, but it really likes to be taken apart and rebuilt.

Most problems are now fixed

Electrical is good enough for the rest of year. New battery and a few quick rewires. Will work on this winter. Engine is running much better after cleaning and adding some stuff in the gas tank. We will sale the rest of the year and then decide what needs to be done. Thanks everyone!

my motor mount is often hard to raise also, but if i spray all the joints and the locking bar with lubricant it is much much easier. they are spring loaded to help with the lifting. maybe if the lubrication doesn't work the spring may be bad. And with the way you have to bend over and twist to try to lift the motor, you could end up hurting yourselves. if the lubrication doesn't work, it would be worth the money to buy a new motor mounting bracket that has a good spring.
