We sold our 2005 Catalina and purchased a CS-36T (Canadian Sailcraft). We sailed her home on Saturday and all I can say is she's built like a tank! It's no wonder CS Yachts went under they built way to much boat for the money! Cupecoy was cruised extensively by her previous owners and was maintained to the highest standards. She's truly a 1% boat. The previous owner even had her Awl-Gripped before listing her because of a few scratches.. I call her a 1% boat because less than 1% of boats are maintained this well. We looked at tons of boats this winter and finally found one! Believe me my moisture meter got a serious work out and 75% of the boats we looked at had serious deck moisture issues. Believe it or not but even my stupidly high standards can be met in a used boat it just takes a lot of looking.. Future project list includes: New Found Metals Stainless Steel Port Lights All new thru-hull seacocks Mid boom sheeting and cabin mounted traveler Already done: New standing rigging (Thanks to Kevin at Noth East Rigging what great service) New Harken MK-IV roller furler iPod installed with stereo and new cabin speakers Re-wired mast with Anchor Marine wire & installed a new VHF antenna, anchor light and steaming/deck light.. -Maine Sail Cupecoy's New Photo Gallery http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/cs36 PS - Sorry for the crappy quality picture all I had with me was my wifes point & shoot and not my "good" camera..

She looks strong

If you don't mind me asking, how much does a boat like this cost? What years is it. This looks like a blue water boat! I like the strong keel bolts bars instead of washers. This is NO Ford!

I had to double take for a second

and say "what the heck happened to the hull." Then I realized that it was a refelection of the water. That is a sweet looking boat and I'm sure it will give you many miles of enjoyment!! Fair winds! Jack Manning s/v Victim of Fate Atlantic City, NJ

core sample?

From where did you extract the core sample and more important, how is it done in such as way as to not be visible such that the owner would have allowed it? Always wondered about this

She's a 1979

She's a 1979 and they go for anywhere between 50k and 90k used. Many CS-36's have crossed the pond and many are used for full time cruising. The boats were over built for their market. They were intended to compete with Sabre, Tartan & C&C, price wise, but the layup schedule alone is far beefier and was far more costly to produce. For instance the hull stringers are solid fiberglass U chanels and are a full 1.25 inches thick and spaced roughly every 12 inches. There are also three glassed in foam stringers running down both hull sides to add to the stiffness. The hull deck joint is an inward flange and a full 8 inches deep through bolted every 4 inches and bonded with 5200 for the full 8 inch width. The stanchions, toe rail, genoa tracks etc. all go through solid glass not a core so a leaking stanchion is not the end of the world. All in all these were very well constructed boats. We were looking at Hinterholer's, CS's, Ericsons & Nonsuch's or anything of high quality and clean but not much was to be found. Our back up was a 32-200 Ericson that was in ok shape..... I have owned 3 Catalina's and loved them but wanted a higher quality older boat this time and we got it. The attention to detail at CS was way ahead of their time. The European influence (no teak) and robust build came from the designer Ray Wall of Camper Nicholson fame. The only teak above decks on this boat are the two companionway hatch boards! The hand rails were made from 316 stainless steel! It's almost impossible to find a boat older than 1995 without teak to maintain. She also has dual built in propane lockers something very unusual on a 1979 boat. So far we are very, very happy with her..

Core Sample

Since she is a 1979 and has cruised in hot climes she has a few spots of dry deck delamination where the balsa and glass seperate from the temp extremes and expansion contraction. I plan on having this fixed over the winter and the core sample was agreed upon by the owner and myself. The core is taken from the cabin side off the deck and does not punch through the deck. This boat has a full aray of headliner panels so it was no problem. After the picture was taken the core was put back in place with West System and glassed over. This core was from the worst of the delaminated area. The meter read dry but we wanted to see the core to be sure..

I echo Don's question about the core sample and

also would like to know what moisture meter you use? How much experience do you need using it to be confident in making accurate readings? She is gorgeous! Thanks.

I use the..

I use the J.R. Overseas meter. It's the meter used by many surveyors. Yes there is a lot to know about using one! You can get many false positives if you don't know what's under what you are reading like a large metal backing plate etc.. It's best to know how to properly use one before dismissing a boat as a basket case with wet core. I don't like moisture around stanchions, mast steps, chain plates, cleats & cockpit soles for obvious reasons.

I owned a CS30 for 4 years

They are exceptionally well built, and you still see many of them on the Great Lakes. The tall rig configuration makes for a fast but tender ride, at least on the 30. For those used to the more ample beam that is carried far aft in today's designs, the aft state room will appear cramped, as will the galley. However, the boat tracks well and is easier to steer in reverse as a result of the narrow stern. Good choice and good luck!

Looks great Rodd

An ispiration for me to get my "Cordelia" looking as good. Give me a call if you want to go racing tomorrow night. We usually meet around 5:15 at Centerboard. Kathy will be away for the weekend so I will be doing lots of work on her but hope to get in a sail if weather permits. Tim R.

Maine Sail, Sheis beautiful and completely puts

to rest any arguments about age and value. She could be brand new from the looks of the pictures.

I have owned 2

CS's, starting with a 30 in 1984 and then moving up to a Merlin in 1988. I still sail the Merlin on Lake Ontario. They are great boats. There is a CS owners group if you're interested. Congrats on your new purchase.
