I wish there was a bigger angle picture of it. I'm sure this can't be, but it almost looks run aground on the BEACH.

And yes, he who casts stones, etc, I've been aground a few times as well. Recently I might add..

There are those who have run aground and those who will run aground...

I fall into both categories!

Anyone who says

Anyone who says they have sailed a lot, and never run aground, I automatically suspect of being a liar.

Y'all should put little wheels on the bottom of your keels like we did. We don't worry any more, we just put the pedal to the metal, so to speak, and we're over it and going again. Just last week we cut 32 miles off our sail by going over St. Vincent! Remember to buy wheels with Teflon bearings as the steel ones rust out pretty quickly.

Those reefs are in the middle of a deep water "sea" .. Doesn't look like there is any exposed land there.. There is a ranger station on stilts but not much else.. Google Sulu Sea and Tubbataha Reef..

I would like to see pictures. I've already bored out my keel for the axles.
And should they be Z rated tires, for high speeds?

There's a difference between us recreational sailors going aground and the Navy that has people on the bridge 24/7 precisely to keep the ship's position accurately plotted on current charts. That CO won't ever command a ship again. He or she is toast. Sad part is that the CO was probably off the bridge and his crew was loafing and playing clutchbutt in his absence.

Is the reef covered well at high tide and then exposed at low tide? Could it be that, at the time the ship hit the reef, it might not have been possible for a careful watch/look out to see the reef? All that will come out as the investigation continues.
