Waxing While in Water

Does anyone wax their boat while in the water? I was thinking about motoring slowly up to a beach and then dropping anchor in about 4 feet of water. That would allow me to wax close to the water line (very calm water in our cove). My C-27 draws 4 feet. Thanks in advance - Rob

I'd take it to Hippie Hollow

That is exactly how I do mine take it out to one of the islands scrape the bottom and wax the sides.

Hey! Rick Webb

So... Just how do you know about Hippy Hollow, and don't you have other things (more interesting) to do when you are there? Just Curious.... Jim Cook

Displaced Texan

I lived in San Marcos worked in Oak Hill for a while, and was stationed at Bergstrom. In fact I took my wife to the Oasis on our first date. I really really miss Austin.

of course

I've waxed my boat several times while at the dock (in the water). It can be a challange with my dink floating out away from the boat but it can and does get done. I done use any electic buffers in the H2O (duh), just take my time and do it slowly. Now about this Hippie Hollow, sounds like my kind of place being an ex-hippie from Coconut Grove.

Rick

I was at the Oasis when I first got the idea of getting my own sailboat - watched one cruising across the setting sun. 6 months later I bought a catamaran.... By the way, Hippie Hollow is not the place to wax your boat these days - if you are of the heterosexual persuasion. It is mostly populated by aging men looking for other aging men... Now that's all well and good if that spins your prop, but not the kind of place to get work done without a million interruptions by would-be suitors. Anyway, I'm one inlet over in Cyress Cove, and our cove has a very gradual slope, so I'm figuring I can drive into about 6 feet of water, and pull her in the rest of the way by hand. Will have to watch out for the water moccasins... I'm still trying to convince my wife they don't exist... Later Rob

Rob, Not sure Which Would be Worse

Sorry to hear about Hippie Hollow guess it's name has changed a bit now. I always thought that the Cotton mouths stayed in close right along the shore, but at least they do stay on top of the water. I had asked a while ago if Mona's up on the Pedernales was still there but got no response do yo know?

Rick, doesn't ring a bell

but I've only been here about three years. Will have to check into it. Was Mona's up by Perdinales Falls, or down where the Perdinales meets Lake Travis? Rob

It Was Up

It was up the river and I think under the 71 bridge but it has been a while. We used to see Willie out there on occasion it was next door to his ranch I beleive. In fact his interview with Barbera Walters was done on Mona's veranda. Best enchiladas in the whole world.

better spot to work on boat

Hippie Hollow is the last place I would go to wax anything, period. But again that may depend on which way your keel swings. One of the coves past Starnes Island would probably be perfect. Or just wait till the water level drops again like it did last year and you can walk out to your boat.

Guess We had Better Let Everyone Else In.

Not that I am awfully concerned with what others think of my masculinity but Hippie Hollow was a nude beach on Lake Travis. Not sure when it was taken over by the other faction. The Oasis is a wonderful restaurant to go and have a drink and watch the sunset. Careful who you take there I ended up married to the last girl I took there, it has that effect. If your in Austin it is worth the trip.

I'll definitely have to check out Mona's

Locals here like to hide things from newcomers, so I am not surprised I haven't heard about Mona's. Having lived here about three or four years, I have found myself doing that too. Austin is growing at an unbelievable rate.... We used to shore-launch our Prindle Catamaran at Pace Bend Park and sail past the Perdinales all the time.

Growing Now?

Should have been there 20 years ago when it started growing.
