After using 3M restorer and wax on my flag blue topsides, I waited 2 days and applied Collinite boat wax. After applying and removing the Collinite , it seems to have left swirly marks on the bottom half of the topsides near the waterline. The top half looks great. What did I do wrong and how can i fix it? Can I apply another coat to the bottom half ? Will this fill in the swirly marks?? Thanks, jmp

Swirls...

JMP IT didn't leave swirly marks, YOU did. :) You might try hand working the area with the marks you don't like. No reason not to reapply some Collinite above what's already there. What do you mean by "removing the Collinite?" What # Collinite are you using? If you can clean it up by hand, it simply means the buffer got away from you or you leaned too hard. Start in a small spot and work outwards. Happens to many. Stu

wax swirls

You are right..I did! The wax was applied by hand and I waited for the haze to dry, according to instructions on the bottle. The hand pressure to remove was the same top and bottom. I will rewax the bottom half and see if I can even it out. otherwise the 5 foot rule will have to apply for this season :( thanks, jmp

I had this happen too

use very little fresh colonite wax, on a fresh, clean applicator, go over small areas at a time, new wax will soften the old, and swirls will disapear. (a small area is 2'x4')Also, do not let the wax dry, buff it right after you apply it. I didn't read the container, and waxed the entire side of the boat!! too.

Swirls

I've not used the 3M restorer, I do use the 3M micro compounding liquid (not available in boat stores). My experience in the past when using compound, if it is not done evenly, swirls will result. You did not say how you appied the restorer or the wax and you did not say which Collinite you used. I use Collinite 870 Fleetwax, it is a cleaner wax and it could leave swirls I suppose but its not happened to me. The paste wax must be rubbed off before it dries. Compounding is best done with a buffer, not by hand, and is best when buffed completely off without leaving it dry. I apply wax by hand and buff by hand. I think though the Collinite paste wax may work best by elecric buffing. Best of luck. Paul

Collinite 952 (or 925)

It is the collinite 925 or 952..I redid the areas and I am grateful for the 5ft rule. It didn't help..:( Thanks for the suggestions.

jkksail ...won't this just wipe off the wax ??

The directions say to wait til the haze dries before buffing. If I wipe it right away won't it just take the wax off?

I am refering to the

pure waxes Colinite sells, either the paste or the 925 semi liquid. Yes the instructions say to let it dry to a haze, however, I always get swirls when I do that. By applying a very thin new coat, I eliminate the swirls, I do not think much if any wax is lost in the process. Colonite is a great product, makes my 20 year old H34 look good!
