I used polyglo on the deck of a Hunter25.5 that I had and it made things look fantastic. It did wonders to the 20 year old gelcoat. It is easy to apply and gave the boat that wet look. It last for many months and if you apply more before the sun eats into it (about 6 monts for me) it stays looking good. Another benefit is that you can polyglo the nonskid. Sealing up the gelcoat helps it repel dirt. Here is my delima. I have been working on the deck of my 85 28.5. I have fixed many dings and even had gelcoat sprayed on a few spots. The deck is looking pretty good and now i need to shine it up. I thought about using a wax but what holds me back is that it does not seem to last very long and you can't wax the nonskid. When it is just left unsealed it becomes a magnet for dirt and mildew. What are other people having success with and do you treat the nonskid? By the way, the polyglo does make the nonskid slippery when wet but I solved that by lightly hitting it with 600 grit sand paper. I have had real success with polyglow on ther hull. It really looks great and last longer because the direct sun does not hit the sides. Jeff

I've started using Woody Wax

It is supposed to be a good product for the deck. I have applied it just once so far. Easy to do and so far is good at keeping the deck clean and without slickness. I also notice we no longer get any chalky residue on our clothing. I think a lot of the wax got absorbed into the deck so I am going to do another coat tomorrow. Takes about 15-20 minutes for my C22. I also use PoliGlo on the topsides and love it. I didn't know it could be used on the deck but I guess why not. How did you apply it on the deck? Paintbrush? Sponge?

I also just applied Woody Wax

to my deck and cockpit, on the recommendation of a friend who used it last year. I am looking forward to being able to spray off the daily fish head and tail that some bird is leaving me, rather than having to chisel it off. We also have strange bugs - they look similar to a mosquito without a stinger, but when you do anything stronger than breathe on them, they dissolve into a green smear that is nearly impossible to remove. The WW applied very easily on the non-skid, but was a little blotchy on the smooth areas. It is easy to see where it needs a little more applied. My gelcoat while faded and dry was not really chalky yet, and the WW does not really put a shine on it - more of a satin finish - but it did turn it from almost white back to the cream color it is supposed to be. Rather than spending the $$ for some Collinite, I did a couple of the larger expanses of the cockpit coamings with some One Grand Blitz Wax Carnuba which I had on hand, and it has a little more shine to it, but not like I suspect you would get with PolyGlo.

Woody Wax

I've heard of this in the past and tried it this spring. Let me tell ya. They aren't kidding on the bottle when they say to rinse off the excess wax after waxing. I thought that because I wasn't planning on sailing for a week or two that the sun would melt it in and we would get a nice rain to rinse it. Three weeks later when I went sailing, it was so slippery that I damn near busted a leg and went for a swim a couple of times. So do follow the directions and don't be an idiot like me who was trying to get the product to last 8 months instead of 6. Note: After I got back I rinsed her good and she seems to have traction, however, I went back and read the bottle again and nothing says anything about protecting it from UV. That saddens me. I want a non-skid that not only has traction but I can also protect it from UV so it will last 35 years.

Woody Wax and UV

According to the Woody Wax web site: "With applications lasting two months, this concentrated wax will protect your decks and fiberglass from the deteriorating affects of the sun, oxidation, water spots, and pollution, without the use of harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners." So it seems it does provide UV protection. Also, as Frankllin noted, you MUST rinse the boat after application to avoid slipperiness. My deck is not slippery at all.
