Waterspout Video

I hope you all don't mind but I already had this little short piece already put together from our excursion last summer in the keys. As I remarked to Ken in the previous video thread, as nice as sailing in Florida can be, things aren't always fun and games. I must confess to being completely mesmerized as I peed my pants and filmed this thing. It's why I don't gloat TOO much about living here. I know, I know. I should have been helping the Admiral prepare the boat for a direct hit, but then you wouldn't be able to watch, would you? :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzkONW5SfS4 p.s. Love the waterspout!

How close were you to the waterspout? What were the conditions like on your boat? I had to watch it without audio since I am at work so I can't tell if you were getting lots of wind or not. We always go down to the Florida Keys, usually in March. I have always hoped I would see one but it is probably the wrong time of year. Thanks for sharing.

I'm looking forward to checking the video out.....

....but my computer at work won't allow me access. Thank goodness this site isn't blocked! I was mountain biking on a ridge overlooking lake tahoe and saw a huge waterspout a few years ago. No one believed me and then I was redeemed when I found a website where someone posted some pics and a video. It was mesmerizing. Here is a link. They also have some pictures of surfing some of the waves in Tahoe. Tim

Tim, I'll attest to the evening wind waves in Tahoe.

Last summer I launched from the public ramp on the south shore. Retrieving the boat was a nightmare. The winds kicked up and the light aluminum floating dock was a pain to tie up to with 3' waves. Launched next time at the Keys. Expensive but worth the money. I have recently found out a colleague has a condo at the Keyes with a slip he doesn't use, heh, heh, heh. Have to wait til home to see the youtube video, we're blocked here too. Frank

Saw one here on L Ontario last fall. Fortunately, i was on land. it never touched down, but was pretty interesting.

That was a thing of beauty. It is amazing to me that you can have this whirling dirvish a few hundred yards away, while the water all around you is perfectly calm. Thanks for the link, that is truly cool. Ross in Tampa
