Doew your 331 seem to set low in the water? I am concerned that the bow of my new (04) 331 is well below the water line when the water tank, located under the v-berth in the bow, is full. Also, the stern rubrail sits under the water at the dock, even with a full water tank. It is out of the water on other Beneteaus. The whole boat seems to set to deep in the water. My dealer said it is common for the 331. Do any other 331 owners have this concern and if so, what have you done about it?

Fred, I have to say that doesn't sound right to me. I am assuming that you have looked at other 331's. Why don't you take a couple of pictures of yours and other and tbring them to the dealer. Have you added a lot of extra weight by chance - chain rode instead of rope etc that would make the bow sit low?

I have a 2004 Beneteau 331 and it too floats low at the bow, about 2 inches lower then the stern. The stern rub rail (the only place there is a rub rail on the boat)is not however below the water line. Do you have the shoal draft? I was warned on this forum that this occurs with the shoal draft version. Since the boat does not sit with water over the bottom paint I realize it is cosmetic. Beneteau should however correct for this.

Fred, I wrote a review on this website that mentions the bow-low problem on the 2001 model. The shoal keel is basically too heavy for the boat. I'm guessing that your 2004 model probably has 3-400lbs of lead glassed into the transom to compensate for the forward weight of the full water tank. I had the option of putting the lead in or repainting the bootstripe higher. I opted for neither. Instead, I put a flexible water tank under the aft berth to help compensate, but I still have the waterline above the bootstripe when the forward water tank is more than half full. I don't know why this doesen't seem to affect all of the shoal draft 331's unless there are owners out there that never fill up their water tank.

We have a deep keel
and she float about like Cayuga picture. Stern about 4 inches out of the water. Bootstrip is also about 4 inches out of water and level with water tanks full. Dragonfly does list to port. The AC and refrige are on that side. When I stand on the starboard side, she's level.

We have a B321 that lists to port, rubrail at the stern is under water when the tanks are empty. Use to worry about it but it seems to be the norm for 32-33' Bens. At last bottom job, I had the bottom paint added across the lower transom.

I thinking about getting a new boat . . .
For the last few months I have been considering a new boat, my first "new" new boat. One thing I have learned from the formum is that I'm having the dealer fill up all the water tanks and take a look before I write any checks. Frankly these are expensive boats and you should not expect things like this to happen but I think you really need to check for yourself. That's what I am going to do. --Dan

I have a 331 with the shoal draft (2003, hull #176). have not really noticed the bow being low with the water tank full. Definitely have never noticed the stern sitting low. But, definitely does list to port, with I attribute to the ac unit, galley and cockpit lazarette all being on the port side. I must admit, the listing to port did give me a little bit of worry at first, but it certainly is nice to know that I am not alone with this issue.
