Some one left the hatch open and about 3 months later I went to check on the boat and there was about two feet of water in the cabin, now what kind of problem do you think I might have. The water has been pumped out but I'm not sure about the wood ,engine, trans., so forth? Doe's the boat have stringers between the hull and cabin sole or what?

Survey

I think before you go to sea you should have a survey done and determine exactly where the boat stands.A complete review of all systems as well as a mechanic checking the engine ect. You don't want to head out in an unfit boat, just when you really need that engine is the time it will fail.

Although you do not mention it, not visiting the boat in three months leads me to suspect that the problem occurred while the boat was out of the water. I have always feared a fluke incident allowing the interior to flood so when laid up, I remove the knotmeter sensor from its place in the bilge to ensure that no major water accumulation can occur. It probable helps with air circulation, too. Of course, I have to remember to put back the sensor before launching.

Flooding

Joe's suggestion about getting a survey is good advice! Watch for mold/mildew formation. It might require some agressive preventative action fairly quickly. At 2 foot depth, you are way above any transverse stringers, etc. The bilge has holes through them to allow drainage, anyway. Any bulkhead woodwork certainly was soaked. They might be damaged (warping, cracks) and likely discolored. You need to pay close attention to your engine & transmission, as they might have been damaged. At a minimum, change the oil in both and carefully go over all fuel, cooling, and exhaust systems. The fuel tank might have been sitting in water corroding, too. The batteries were likely under water and may need replacing. Possibly the refrigeration compressor (forward end of the port cockpit lazarrette. Also, check under the galley sink where the water heater is. The potable water pump & manifolds under the aft cabin bunk, port side are susceptible. Also, the bilge pump under the nav station settee. There is a shower drain pump under the sink in the head, too. Lot's of wiring & hoses down low that need checking on! Also, the fluxgate compass (if you have an autopilot) is often mounted on a transverse stringer in the bilge just forward of the engine (a screw-down sole panel just forward of the removable one). Inspect the compression post foot down by the keel for corrosion. The keel bolts & nuts, too. Good luck --RonD

your right ,laid up

Augie your right, it was laid up,it really belongs to someone else who was trying to sell it.Needless to say I was a little dissappointed when I saw this.I still want the boat but I'm not so sure as to what I might run in to. Thank's for the reply.
