You are correct that water can be trapped in that area but you must have had alot of seepage for that amount to get in. Hunter did for about a year or two which I cannot remember actually put in an inspecdtion port on the rear stbd point of the floor. If you do decide to put an inspection port in, do not do this on the wood floor at all or you will drill into the tank. Be careful!You have the older 26. When you put that back into the water next spring, please look at the base of the compression post whne under way via motore to make sure no water is coming in. I will comment on that next spring should you have a question if water is coming in.Crazy Dave Condon

Water through the hole at the stern

Last summer, I noticed that we were taking in a bit of water through the hole at the stern used for the cables from the motor to the battery. It has a cover over it, but it was not sealed, & in heavy weather, water would splash into the boat, & trickle down to the bilge. I redrilled and sealed the rubber cover, & my problem disappeared.Rick

...no problem. Actually that's the point I'm trying to convey. You and the rest of the gang here helped this newbie at the time (me) check for leaks. My conclusion was yup, only water on top of the tank, no active leak! And for sure about an inspection port on the wood part, hope it didn't seem like I was advocating that.What about putting an inspection port under the porta- pottie? My 26 is a '94 with Isomat spars. Fixed my rudder "creap" with a shear pin (actually a Papermate pen works very well). Still trying to rig a proper shower in the head. alan

here is another thing

Unless you are extremely careful about putting the inspeciton port in without screwing up the ballast tank, I have gotten the water out in the area you are speaking of.Get several beefers like me and stand in the cockpit shootin the bull. You go down and access under the rear berth and look up underneath for=ward and you will see the lip.. Stick towel in there and wipe up. Hope you got long arms. See if that works before you cut out the floor. The trick is getting weight on the back of the boat so it will tip up and of course the water will flow to the lip.Crazy Dave Condon

Still, would be nice to have a relatively easy way of inspecting the top of the tank. alan
