The plastic water tank in my cat 34 is slightly expanded--It's bulging and I can't seem to find the air vent. Does anyone have an idea how to provide release for a water tank?

Starboard

The vent cap should be located on the starboard side of the hull where the fill cap is. Release for the tank would be opening a faucet! You can unscrew the vent cap and force water from a hose down the vented loop to try and clear it from outside the hull

Try locating the vent hose coming off the tank to the vent on the starboard side (per Joe). It would make a watery mess, but you could always try pulling the hose off the fitting at the vent to release the pressure. Just a thought. Good luck! Trevor

RE: Vent

Assuming you mean the stbd water tank under the sette. It is vented through the stanchion that is just behind the water fill cap on the stbd side. You should see 2 small holes just above the base on the outboard side. Use a toothpick, piece of wire or an awl to make sure the holes are open. If you stick a fast running hose down the fill tube, you should be able for force water out of the vent. Wasps, mud daubers or something have probably built a nest. If you can't force them out through the vent, disconnect the vent line at the tank, aim toward the bilge before you try to backwash the vent line. You don't want the critters in your water tank. The vent arangement is the same on the port side for the holding tank.

Thanks for the excellent advice...I'll probably have more questions about other stuff as this is my first sailboat. Jim
