Just purchased a 1987 Pearson 31-2 and am trying to find out whether there is one or more typical location(s)/spot(s) on the fresh water tanks that leak(s). I've seen some postings here and there that seem to suggest that overfilling results in water leaking from what some have suggested is a mere "pinhole-type" vent. On preliminary/simple inspection, my starboard tank appears to have some sort of short plastic tube (c. 1 1/2" long, maybe 1/4" diameter) that is plastic-capped and sticking out of a caulked plastic fitting on the forward inboard top corner which appears to be cracked/broken and leaking. Anyone else have this and know what it is? I'm thinking of simply cutting it off and filling the hole with marine silicone sealant, as it is the most obvious leak thus far. Any other tips/suggestions/warnings would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Quint, there should be a water inlet hose, a vent hose and a hose that goes to your common rail with shutoff valves(mine is under the sink). If you have all three on your tank, then the fitting you describe is not necessary and could be sealed. You need to know what each hose on your tank does and where it goes. Best, Ron
