Beneteau 373 Toronto
While filling up the bow water tank on my '06 373, I did what most people do, and left the hose running while doing other stuff, expecting to see water on the deck when the tank was full. This didn't happen for a long time - I thought, wow, really big tank! When I heard the automoatic bilge pump come on, I checked and found about 20 - 30 gallons of water in the bilge. After checking every hose and hose clamp on the boat, I called the vendor who told me to look at the red plastic cap on the water tank. Indeed, it was cracked about 1/4 inch below the O ring, and was the cause of the problem. My vendor tells we that he knows that this part has failed on a number of boats, and that there is a free replacement cap (it is black) available for those who ask. I suggest all owners take a look under the v berth and see what colour their cap is, since Beneteau isn't making any effort to recall the defective part.

Leaking Tank Caps

David, Came across Georgia Strait the other day from Smuggler Cove to Nanaimo on a well-reefed beam reach in 23 knots. Tula hit 8.9 knots SOG. The fastest I have ever experienced. When heeling well for a few hours (4 in this case), I have found there is a leak somewhere from the V-berth tank. Seems to be the cap and a possibly shot O-ring. Maybe the crew did not tighten the cap enough. I have the black caps on my 390. Those caps have to be screwed down good and tight. The really good thing that came out of this is that I checked the flow output from the single auto bilge pump. Pretty weak. So I may add another bigger bilge pump. Cannot have enough pumping insurance. Peter
