Has anyone here installed a central fresh water holding tank on a H-26? We were thinking of putting a 20 or 30 gal bladder-type water tank in the compartment under the v-birth. We would then drill and run water hose through the other compartments to the galley and head faucets. The only thing we are pondering is how to fill it easily without having to run a garden hose through the boat and to the tank in the v-birth compartment. We are thinking that an exterior fill hole would look pretty unsightly from inside the boat, seeing that there is nowhere to run hose without it being seen right off the bat. Has anyone installed a water pressure system and changed over the faucets to accomadate them? If anyone has photos, we would love to see them. Thanks. Kevin

for our h26. From this form I have found that a 30 gal tank might put too much weight forward so a smaller tank could be best or a longer midships mounted tank. I thought about running the fill line down from inside the anchor locker side panel through the front v of the v berth. The least intrusive route of all. I will probable run a electric demand pump that is switched from the faucets. It is basicly a moderate flow/low pressure system. I would also use a semi solid/fixed tank. (baffeled and vented). Don't know if this helps much because this is our early thoughts. This has to be a next winter project. It's time to sail now!! Good luck Ray

I agree with the first poster. 30 gallons of water in the bow of the boat would diffently effect the sailing motion of your boat. Remember everything stowed in the bow of the boat is at the end of a huge lever, and it doesn't take alot of extra weight up there to effect performance.

Yes I'm going to make that kind of installation. I have the gear at home by now and in a couple of weeks they should be in place. I don't like electrical systems when I can't charge the battery regurlarly. So I'll go for foot-operated pumps. And when you have to do the job yourself, the water lasts longer. Toomas

Kevin, The H26 we bought had a pressurised system already installed.The water inlet is on the starboard side close to the front hold. There is a female connection on the outside with a cover so water doesn't get in the opening. Reinforced hose goes from the fitting inside the hold to a water bladder. There is a shurflow demand pump that activates when the faucets are turned on. Have water in the head and the sink in the galley. The water bladder isn't real big about 13 gallons.

My '95 H26 also had pressurized water when I bought it. It is a pressure demand system with a 25 gallon bladder under the V-berth. Mine has a fill hose with a deck fitting attached but was never installed through the deck. I just pull the fill hose up through the hatch in the "windshield" to fill the bladder. My water lasts a long time so filling it this way is not really a bother. I don't usually fill mine completely, but the extra weight has not seemed to be a problem. The hose from the bladder runs under the settee on the starboard side up to "crane neck" type faucet at the galley sink. It works well. I am considering tee-ing off the hose as it comes out of the pump and leading another hose back on the port side to the head sink, as it wasn't done. I lived on my boat for 8 months so I have lots of experience with it. All in all, it works well and I would recommend it. Ned Christensen Second Wind

what kind of water bladder?
right now i have been looking at the 2 different types that west marine carries. They have those PVC types covered with the blue nylon, or the black neoprene/nitrile ones. The neoprene ones are quite a bit more than the PVC. Anyone had a bad experience with the PVC? Also, is the bladder strapped down in there at all? Does it slide around when your heeling?

That kind of holds it is place and provides enough friction against the hull that mine doesn't move. The compartment is plenty large enough to hold my inflatble dingy, emergency tow rope, and too many other things, in addition to the bladder. I have the 13 gallon bladder type in my H26. I cemented four small blocks of oak (with 5200) with eyelets on them such that when the bladder was in place, I could secure the bladder corners to it. I used 2 large cable ties on each corner of the bladder. Realize the bladder will rise slightly when filled. I plumbed the outlet to an in-line filter, and installed a filler hose that’s close to the starboard side – doesn’t seem to be in the way. The hose enters the V-berth at the extreme aft area of the V-berth. As far as the extra amount of water you may want to haul – 1. Be conservative. 2. Use one gallon drinking water jugs. That way, you can store them wherever you want to distribute the weight. I didn’t install a pressure system. Figured that would just keep me busy re-filling the water supply.
