Water Pump

I am now repairing stuff that is not working/not working as it should
I came to the water pump issue:when I switch on, it turns on right away, makes a noise, then cuts out and re-starts again
I saw there was a leak under the sink and replaced new pipes, same thing again
Today I noticed I have to tweek the switch, and it atempts to start and makes a humming sound
It is a Sureflow Model 200 with a diaphram.
My question: is there a way to test it, or should I just replace it?
I fear it has been there for a very long time
Is t easy to install?
Who stocks them?
Do I just disconnect the hoses and re-connect them one by one?
Help please one more time!

Often, the pressure switch fails and will keep the pump from running. That part can be replaced if you are handy and careful about cleanliness. The ShurFlow web site may have parts lists and diagrams to go by .. The rebuild kits are available and usually have a pressure switch included. Test the pump by running it for a couple of seconds with no discharge pipe connected to make sure it runs OK.. The drive bearing sometimes fails in this pump so make sure it turns freely and doesn't leak.. Good luck with it.

Contact ShurFlow. They can sometimes inspect the units and repair if necessary. If they are NOT worth repairing you are only out the freight.

If you end up replacing the unit, I suggest that you look at a VSD by Jabsco. Very quite and they work well.

Two things to check before replacing or repairing. It could be leaks that will not let pressure build. Or it might be having a problem priming. When I winterize and drain my tanks I have to prime in the spring when I refill the tanks. I disconnect the hose between the tank and the pump. I fill that hose, reconnect it, and start the pump. I might have to do that three or four times. Seems like there is an air block between the tank and the pump that I have to get past.

Do you have a hot water tank? If yes then try isolating to just the cold water side. On my boat the hose connections for the hot and cold are right near the pump. This will eliminate the tank and all the hot water plumbing as a source of leaks. Still won't build pressure? Then I isolate further, just to the sink where the pump is located. My pump is right under the galley sink so I would replumb to just have cold water to that sink. Knowing there are no leaks is a must.

As Ed mentioned, you also need to check for any additional leaks. When you try to repair the tubing in your boat, be sure to use the correct fitting to make the repairs. The old stuff is Qest and it is getting hard to find. Trailor supplies are a good place to find it. The new stuff is Pex, but has similar sized fittings.

The drinking water plumbing on a 1970's Hunter is not Qest. That came 20 years later. It is clear or white flexible braided vinyl. It leakes at joints. Plain and simple. Mostly on the suction side. Also the aluminum dip tube in the water tank is pin-holed. That notwithstanding, the problem Jorge describes sounds to me like a pressure switch ( on the pump ) is heading south. Replace or bypass it temporarily and see what happens. To "prime" you must open the faucet and let it run, opening and closing the faucet till all air is expelled. If the air won't stop. you have a leak in the suction side.
