Water Pump Replacement

After returning from a two and a half week trip to the Bahamas, I found that the water pump for the refrigeration quit sometime on the the crossing home. The unit is a Grunert Polarmate, but I believe uses the same March pump as the A-B (2.7 gpm@1amp). My question is whether there are any alternatives to the March pump, realizing that the amp draw will likely be higher and I would be willing to make the trade-off between cost and amp usage. Yes, I did trace the circuitry and isolated the problem to the pump. Thanks in advance. Paul Bednarzyk S/V Knot Again

It is possible to use any low current draw 12vdc pump with the same or better water flow. How old is the pump? It may still be under warranty.

Pump

Bill, Thank you for the reply. The pump is almost 2 years old and I presume is out of warranty, but must say I did not look at that specifically. Do you have specific recommendations as to manufacturer/models? Again, thanks. Paul Bednarzyk S/V Knot Again

The March pump when installed correctly is a very reliable pump. The majority of failures we see are due to installation problems. I cannot recommend a specific manufacturer for that system as it is not an Adler/Barbour unit. Basically, you should look for a high quality, low current draw pump. Most of the self priming pumps have adequate water flow.
