After running the motor for a while I'm getting water with either oil or diesel in it collecting under the engine and in the bilge. Sometimes its a lot and other times not so much. Any guesses what's going on?

I can't help you directly, but more detail will likely help others respond. What model motor? What kind of quantity is "a lot" and what is "not so much". Can you correlate any facet of engine operation (e.g., heavy loading, lots of transmission shifting) with the quantity of water you find?

Is the "water" fresh water, salt water, or coolant? Is it mostly water, or mostly hydrocarbons?

Have you visually checked for active leaks, or signs of a leak that can be traced back to a point of origin? Verifying whether it's oil vs. diesel will help a lot. Are ALL your hose clamps tight? Are ALL the hoses in good shape? Oil drain plug tight? Is the raw water intake leaking at the thru hull?

If you are not single handing, you may want to observe the engine while underway. If you do so, be extremely careful to avoid moving/rotating parts with your clothing, hair, and other body parts. Good luck.

You will need to clean under your engine and every time you use the motor you will
need to narrow down where the leak is coming from and yes will not be easy but that is
how to do it,wipe and clean every time using the motor.

Ok, the sump under the engine and the bilge should not be connected. If by any chance a PO opened up a hole in the sump under the engine than water seeping back and forth from the bilge might be your problem. The water in the bilge gets expelled into the sea or lake and it should be free of petroleum contaminants. For this reason the manufacturer does not connect the space under the engine to the bilge or any other compartment in the boat. The amount of water may be varying with the amount of water being released below the sole by boat movement.

Adding water to a little bit of oil especially real black oil makes it look like a lot when it probably 2 table spoons
