Water problem

I have an O'day 222 that was not properly covered and stored outside in freezing weather.
The boat is on a trailer. When I raised the front of the trailer, water came out the discharge hole for the self draining cockpit on the back of the transom. I am assuming there is some kind of hose that connects the 2. Is it correct to assume that that hose is broken and water has gone from the cockpit into the hull. The boat has not been used for several years. How do I fix it? How do I know if there is any additional water in the hull (the front of the trailer is jacked up about 4 feet) and how do I know if there is any damage to the hull? I don't see any soft spots. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

I just bought a 1980 22'. I found the same problem. The thru hull in the stern was supposed to be connected by a hose to the cockpit drain. I think because water stays in the hose because the cockpit drain goes straight down and makes for a bad angle for draining. So water stays in the hose and the thru hull freezes and breaks.
Its very hard to get at. If your small or flexible you can get through the starboard lazerette. I am not and had to cut a 8" deck plate in the stern of the cockpit. There was a lot of water in the hull that I had to pump out with a pump attachment on my drill. I found all the Styrofoam was waterlogged. I removed some of it. Don't know what to do with that issue. I replaced the thru hull in the stern and put a new water line on and now the water goes out except I still have water traping in the hose. So I'm looking for a drain thru hull that has a 90 degree angle to make a better exit.

Try looking up our beloved and since passed Trinkka here, a fellow 222 owner, who posted several pics of his cockpit drain mod. It shows the hose config. and his access port. Good ol' Joe, he's gone now, but his help to other sailors lives on.
