water pressure problem

After filling the water tanks and bleeding the system on my C320, the water pump takes about 15 seconds to reach full pressure and shut off. It seems to be pumping about half the water volume as normal through the galley fawcet. The water lines running to the pump appear to be clear of obstructions. The same problem exists for both cold and hot taps. Any ideas where to start trouble-shooting ?

Maybe the diaphragm

It might be a pinhole in the diaphragm or something similar. I'd disassemble the pump and look for that kind of problem. I'd buy a service kit too. If you don't use it this time, you'll need it eventually.

Air in the water heater??

Sounds like air in the system. I use the sequence: pump, first cold water faucet in the line, next cold ...last cold faucet, that same sink hot faucet and then reverse the faucet order back to the first faucet you purged the air from. Let the water run till there is no air and let it run a good time on the first hot water faucet.

If your Hot & cold water taps are separate I would look

between the pump and the inside of the tank. I don't think you have a leak in the pump or it would cycle or run continuously. If your hot and cold water taps are one at your galley faucet, the problem could be there. Another place to check is the vent. It may be causing your problem. To check that just back off your fill cap. You may get more response to this problem if you moved it to the all sailors forum. Good luck Joe S

May be a combination of things

Mine did this once and it was very difficult to figure out. There was an obstruction (salt and sand)in the outlet of the tank but that was not all. There was also a leaking fitting which would allow air bubbles into the inlet side of the pump when it ran but would seal water from leaking out. You could try hooking the pump inlet to another source like a bucket of water and see if it still does this. You can also clean the inlet filter and maybe blow some air into the outlet of the tank. That would rearrange the sediment enough to make it work ok for a while. If you have an access cover, you can try cleaning the tank and look carefully at the outlet.

Hi Ron, our forward tank shut off faucet will...

collect calcified material over time and will slowly build a water flow restriction from the tank. At that point it takes the water pump several seconds to build pressure from the slow volume from the tank. So, usually once a year I remove the faucet and clean out all these deposits after which normal water flow returns. Another place to check is the water pump filter. Ours has a screened filter that is designed to protect the pump from impeller damage. It also will collect this calcified material and needs to be cleaned periodically. Just all part of the boat maintenance routine. Each sink faucet has a screen that collects debris and also needs to be checked. Lots of places to consider before you disassemble or replace the water pump. Terry
