I have a 86 c-27 that needs a new water muffler or a way to repair the old one. My water pump went out and over heated the exhaust hose and melted off part of the stub on the fiberglass muffler so I don't have quite enough tube on the input side to firmly clamp on the exhaust hose (1 1/2 inch ). I've looked for a duplicate but can't find anything exactly like it. What would be a good replacement or is there a way to put an extension on the current muffler?

Assuming you 27 is original, your hose is 1-5/8". Catalina Direct sells a plastic muffler, like the original. I installed an overheat warning device that should prevent me from ever having your problem. Cheap insurance when you price out a new muffler and exhaust hose. I will never be without one. $79. http://www.borelmfg.com/products_alarm.htm

My input hose is most definitely 1 1/2 ID hose. That is what was on there and what I replaced it with. Coming off the engine exhaust is a SS tube with a 5/8 Y that injects the raw water into the exhaust and hose. The output hose is larger, maybe 1 5/8. I can't get back to measure it without removing the hose from the thru hull which is too close to the water line. The other end on the muffler is too far back to get out without extreme effort.
