I need some help getting the water out of a 1975 C22.The boat I bought had been in the water for a long time and to make matters worse it had some rain water in it to. I now have the boat out of the water and blocked up here at the house. But there is water between the inside floor and the bottom of the boat. How can I make sure that it is dried out before I start a little glasswork? Also I dropped the keel and checked the support around the keel housing and it seems to be solid. The bottom is in good shape so the water must have gotten in there in the past few months from rain. Thanks Walt

Drying Out

Walt- The area where you describe water collecting is the bilge. The C22 is small enough that it does not come with a bilge pump. I had an '88 for 8 years and I always kept a sponge and bucket to dry out the bilge. You can also suck it out with a turkey baster. You are on the right track to dry your hull - keeping it on the hard is #1. #2 is removing bottom paint to let the fiberglass breath. You can check moisture levels with a handheld meter. All repair yards and surveyors have them. I don't know if you can rent or have to buy. Good luck on your project. BTW did you see the big article on Catalina Yachts in the current issue of Sail magazine? Barry S/V Bear Necessity H33 #128

trapped water

I had water 'trapped' under the dinette floor when I was drying out my c22. what finally worked for me was jacking the front of the trailer up as high as I could on blocks and leaving the boat elevated like this overnight. next day I lowered it and the water had drained to where I could get it out with a sponge.
