Water Line Questions for the Vision 32

I am set to close on a Vision 32 and I love the boat. I took it on a test sail this past weekend and have some questions about the "ride" and water line issues. First of all, the boat rides low in the water at the stern. So low that the first 4-5 inches of the stern where there is no bottom paint is discolored from the water. Under cruise, either power or sail it says underwater. A contributing factor is that it has a 4.5kW Disel generator in the aft locker which adds weight. Should I be concerned? Does anyone else with the Vision 32 have this problem? The second issue is that sailing in about 15k wind on a starboard tack the bow was plowing into the wave almost like a submarine. It was at least a good 18" over the water line. Also a contributing factor is that the water tank was full and I am not such an accomplished sailor. Is this something someone has a proble with? Thanks for the help. I am still committed to this boat, just curious if there is any reason to be concerned. Thanks for the input.

V32 Squat

1. the stern squat is likely the generator. However, under power, most of these hulls do squat, at least the wide body Hunters and Catalinas I've been on. 2. not sure about the bow wave. I never experienced any 'plowing', although when powered up, she pushes a lot of water away. 3. I think you will find a very enthusiastic group of owners. I was very happy with mine in the nine years I owned it. Good luck. (Don't buy it if you don't like getting attention though. Everyone wants to talk about the rig, etc.) Rick D.

My 86 H28.5 has similar submerging bootline. I suspect that when they "marked" the bootline on this early build, they did it without the teak interior installed. My boot line is evenly half underwater along with the thin white stripe under the bootline. yes it gets dirty. I decided to simply adapt by taping the the appropriate water line and use antifouling to the appropriate height. It looks alot cleaner now. In you case it appears the added generator accentuates the problem. What about some added ballast in the front of the boat?

Keep your traveller to middle or slightly windward. That will help put a twist in the upper mail sails and spill some wind out the top. 2. Are your jib Cars more than 2/3rds forward on the tracks? You may be power sailing buy giving too much shape (round) to your job. Pull 'em back and sheet in on those jiblines ( but don't choke the "slot") which will shift the center of the wind further back on the length of the boat. I had 2 Prindle catamarans and in a blow I needed to have my barber haulers pull out the jib or I'd bury my lee pontoon - (pitch-poled once).

I also noted the squatting and the plowing. It does squat when I have 4 adults in the cockpit, I have no extra equipment apart from two 5 gallon fuel tanks in the rear lockers. I will try Jim's suggestions, I did worry for a while about plowing and have had that up to 30 k wind. Thought there was some weeds caught under. I stopped worrying about it, but in two weeks I will try all these suggestions.
