I have 1984 Hunter 31.
When we put on the hard this year I had the mechanic look at some things
that I needed to get done. I went through a pretty thorough systems check
and gave me some things to do.
His big concern was the exhaust hose. The PO replaced the exhaust hose from the mixing elbow to the water lift muffler. As per a number of articles
the hose should drop to the muffler - which allows the water to always drain from the hose.
I am including a picture of the current hose configuration. I don't know if this is how hunter designed the system.

Can anyone provide pictures of there setup on the H31?
Is there a large loop in the locker compartment?

My mechanic suggest changing the large loop to a smaller one - so any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Here is another article from Yanmar. The large loop is after the water lift muffler to keep sea water from entering the engine. On my engine installation professionals looped the exhaust hose as high in the boat as possible before directing it to the boat's exhaust through hull.

Can anyone with the H31 vintage 84 take a picture of their exhaust hose to water muffler? I contacted Hunter and the could not provide any information - said it was all
lost.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Mark, my 84 31 looks very similar to what you have going on there. I have often wondered with the loop going to the muffler being higher than the manifold on the engine, will water in the hose between the muffler and engine be able to work it's way back to the engine? But the boat is almost 30 years old and the engine is the same, so I decided to leave well enough alone.
