i keep trying to find the source of a freshwater leak into my bilge. it is a 1987 30 and i fixed a hot water leak with a check valve thinking that would do it but walla, more water. finding a line from the holding tanks seems to be the next step. it has been raining quite a lot lately but if anyone has had a fresh water leaking into bilge problem, please share your process with me. also, has anyone ever tried a check valve from the out flow of the bilge pump? there is a tremendous amount of water that refluxes after the bilge pump stops pumping. let me know.

FRESH WATER BILGE

My starbord fresh water holding tank had an inspection plate on top that did not seal and when I added water to both starbord and v birth tanks the water would back flow to the starbord tank and overflow to the bilge.

Check Valve - Heap Bad Medicine

I put a check valve in the bilge line on my C27 - I won't do it again. It worked well just after installation, but after a few months the back pressure would overpower the pump ( a rule 1500). Clearing it wasn't a major problem at the dock but if I needed the pump due to a leak it would have been useless. As for the fresh water leak, you might check the ice box, etc. I sold the C27 and bought an Endeavour 37 and had a similar problem - turns out both ice boxes drain into the bilge, even though the plans show through hull connections for both.

water in bilge

I have an 83 C30 and kept getting excess watwer in the bilge while out the water(spring prep for launching) I looked every where. I found the leak in the cockpit drains. Both were rotten and rain water would run into the boat and settle in the bilge. To check, you will have to crawl into the quarter birth and remove the wall plate to expose this area. Not sure this is your problem, but probably good idea to check condition of hoses.

Fresh Water in Bilge

I have a 1975 Catalina. I get fresh water in my bilge after rain. I think that it is coming in around the rudder post as I have seen it dripping from the quadrant. DON
