looking to buy 1992 pearson 34-2 the boat is in vary good shape, but it is leaking water from the mast down into the cabin in vary hard rain has anyone had seen this prob. before, cost? vary new the forum, thanks vic
On my Pearson 37, I get water through the top of the mast in a hard rain - have gotten used to it. If the water is coming in from the deck around the mast, get some boot tape and put it over the top of the rubber boot.
check the mast boot for cracks and also to make sure it is seated properly along the mast with silicone making a good seal...... they get old and need to be replaced. I bought a new one for mine a few years ago..... Other than that you can expect some water down the inside of the mast with a keel stepped mast.
I have a Pearson 34-2 and had the same issue when the mast was stepped for this season. The mast boot needs replacement as it would not stay stretched over the opening. I'll do that next year. I removed the straps and wrapped completely over the boot with boot tape then reinstalled the strap. All good since then even after some very heavy storms. As others have commented on a rare I'll get some water down the mast but very little and infrequently.
This is our second season with Sea Rose and we love her. I believe Shaw was a few years ahead in some of his design features of the 34-2. We have hull #34 a 1990. If you do buy the boat let me know as I try to connect with other owners. A great boat but short production run (three years). I believe I learned much over the past two years with her so reach out if I can be of any help.
BTW we live on Longboat Key. We summer in the NE where we keep Sea Rose.
